As you know, I have a large number of siblings, but one sister in particular has probably made me laugh and cry the most in my 33 years. Typically as a child, she would often make me laugh so much that I may have pee’d myself on more than one occasion! (Totally not something you ever admit to, but a fact that was also brought up at my wedding..oh dear god!) This sister also knows me better than myself most of the time and like the rest of my siblings, totally has my back.
So when she announced a couple of months ago that she was ‘getting married’, I was totally overwhelmed with joy. My little sister, engaged to a wonderful man, and its totally her time to map out her life. Like anyone, engagement news is always thrilling and fabulous of course. But when you’ve grown up playing mummy’s and daddy’s, walking up the aisle, fallen asleep late talking about boys, singing and dancing to the ‘Bangles’ and ‘Diana Ross’, and sharing tears and tantrums- you wait a lifetime to hear that news from your sister.
Lucy was born 2 years after me, and the moment she entered my life was the moment all theatrical singing and dancing began! She was and still is the risk taker, the funny one, the brave one, the totally bonkers one, the one to soften all of my ‘seriousness’, the girl who knows how to cheer you up when you’re down and best of all, the most loyal person I know.
I was the first of the 7 siblings to get married, followed a couple of years later by our older sister. Between 3 of us girls (one being my second to youngest sister), we have 6 children. Lucy has over the years watched each of us have our special moments; weddings, babies, christenings, schools, kids parties, etc. Her job in the last decade has been working with children as a nanny, so she has done her fair share of playing ‘mummy’ to over 30 children, often being the backbone of the families she’s worked for and perfecting her culinary skills along the way (she makes a mean mac and cheese)! Lulu is P E R F E C T wife material and we as her family and friends, could always see it. It was only a matter of time before someone would get down on one knee to take her officially off the market!
Coming from a Christian family, we have grown up knowing that one day we would like to marry, just like our own parents. Lulu’s engagement has filled us all with happiness for her and my hope is that I can be just as loyal and supportive for her over the next few months of planning and during her journey as a wife as she is and has always been for me and the rest of us. My love for her just increases each and every day because she is absolutely supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
With her currently in Italy, scouting for wedding venues and imagining her special day, I wanted to write this blog to remind her that now is her time. And Lucy, you’ve totally got this darling xxx
