Stanley and I had the pleasure of going to another Mothers Meetings event, this time to view the newly launched and rebranded ‘My K’ by Myleene Klass. Formerly known as ‘Baby K’, Myleenes range has expanded from originally just being a baby fashion collection, to an impressive global brand for children ages 0-8. Everything from clothing, footwear, accessories and children’s home, this collection promises to impress!
We met up with my sister-in-law and baby nephew one Thursday morning in Bethnal Green, anticipating the event that we had very luckily been invited to. My first time to the area and I finally had an opportunity to pop my head into the Museum of Childhood, pre-event because Stan and I were eager keen early birds! We swiftly skimmed around the museum, of fear that time would run away with itself, then made our way to The Town Hall Hotel. Greeted with glasses of prosecco (as you do at 11am in the morning!), giant confetti balloons, a large range of children’s wear and lots of yummy mummy’s ready and waiting to hear Cherry Healey interview Myleene Klass, this was set to be a fun afternoon ahead!
Myleene’s journey began 10years ago when she collaborated with Mothercare. Baby K has since developed at rapid speed and grown at an incredible rate across 33 countries. Her iconic monochrome range was initially inspired by becoming a mother and noticing that the majority of baby clothes were either pink, blue or yellow and more often than not, covered in fussy multi-coloured designs. She wanted to come up with a range that was different, that stood out and included unisex items. Her wonderful ‘slogan’ T’shirts aim to inspire young children, with powerful sayings such as ‘Super Human’ or ‘Little Explorer’.
As a fellow mother herself, Myleene was keen to share her story with us all. ‘I work 20 hours a day, balancing family and work but I absolutely love what I do’. She certainly is a very savvy business woman. ‘If I do something, I’ll do it the best I can and work like a workhorse!’ On behalf of the room full of mothers, some being business women, others juggling the world of parenting with struggle after struggle…Cherry was keen to ask Myleene how she manages to be so successful at what she does, as well as being a single parent raising two children-
‘It’s a lot of hard work, but I have a great team around me, mostly women and working mums like myself. I have the greatest respect for mums. You learn to be objective about things: the more things you get wrong, the more you learn from them. You have to find that strength and do not give up!’ Talking about life with her girls v work, she went on to say ‘I’ve learnt to worry about the fringes that need immediate attention! I rely on my team a lot…mums are decision makers and that’s what all business women are- decision makers’.
The afternoon promised to be a get-away for us mothers, a chance to mingle with like-minded women, all striving to do it all but wondering how on earth to achieve it! Meeting and listening to Myleene was definitely inspiring. She’s learnt how to create that balance of work and family life and her success is proof. Her attractive My K collection is a result of her hard work and dedication to create something that stands out beyond anything else. We had the opportunity to admire the gorgeous cotton all-in-one’s, fun printed Wellington boots, chunky knitted Pom Pom hats and much more. Oh, and met some awesome women too! 🙂
