The other night I literally felt like Bambi on ice…yes, it has been THAT LONG since I’ve been Ice Skating! It’s totally not true that once you learn how to skate, it all comes flooding back to you. Nope, no way, never did that happen! Harry and I were lucky enough to be invited along to The Tower of London Ice Rink to learn from the very best….none other than the professional Disney on Ice skaters! Equipped with our woolly hats, gloves and scarves, we braved the freezing temperatures and the arctic breeze coming off the River Thames!
My little Harry had never been ice skating before so it really was the blind leading the blind. We both got onto the Ice with weak knees and butterflies in our tummy’s. It was fair to say that the adrenaline was soaring through Harry to the point that it was masking his utter fear of falling over. Unlike myself…I was fearful, very fearful!
For 45 minutes, a group of us families had free rein of the ice rink, alongside Disney’s Frozen skaters, who were very humble so as not to show the rest of us up! As they meandered gracefully among us all in the rink, they offered up their muchly appreciated advice and tips to not only the youngsters, but us scared oldies too. We had a lovely guy called Will who kindly took Harry’s hands at one point to guide him through the basics. Although Harry was grateful, his glances of sheer panic kept catching my eye until I heard ‘I think I want to hold my mums hands now’! We attempted a few laps around the rink to the Frozen soundtrack, singing along with Elsa, Harry holding tightly onto a penguin and me trying to act composed with every rigid leg movement. It was truly magical and felt like such a festive evening. Already dark, the backdrop was breathtaking with the Tower of London all lit up almost like a movie set. The Dancers then gave us a little sneaky preview of some of their awesome skills, of which they will be performing on their Disney on Ice UK Tour this winter.
For Harry’s first ever ice skating experience, it will surely be a very memorable one. A massive thank you to Mothers Meetings, Disney on Ice and the Tower of London Ice Rink for hosting a beautiful evening for us amateurs!
