I recently got invited to view a Norwegian Childrenswear brand called Tiny Trolls of Norway– specialising in kids Outerwear. Luckily for Stanley and I, the event was set up in the fabulously glamorous Landmark Hotel in Marylebone which also happens to be around the corner from where I grew up.
‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing”
Founded by Elaine Kobbeltvedt, her ethos is about getting children playing outside, having fun whatever the weather! Something that resignates with myself and my family, and her products totally reflect just that. Elaine is originally from Scotland, but moved to Norway and set up a family of successful nurseries, which is where her knowledge of children’s clothing necessities came from. With families’ lifestyles in Norway being predominantly based around the outdoors, Elaine felt that it was essential children had the appropriately warm and waterproof garments hence her interests in developing the Tiny Trolls brand.
“The health and happiness of children is what drives me and I love to get them playing outdoors. But I recognised there was a niche in the market for outdoor wear designed with children in mind.” Elaine Kobbeltvedt.
Not only is this outerwear very versatile and more importantly durable, but it is also very FUN, which as all us parents know, is important when you’re trying to get your littles wrapped up, dressed and out the door! With a vibrant colour palette to chose from, the logo and designs are attractive and functional.
The range currently consists of lightweight all-in-one rainsuits from £59.99 and 2 piece rainsuits for the older ones starting at £69.99 which have dungarees. All of which are put through rigorous testing to ensure they are 100% waterproof. Tiny Trolls have their own layering principle, whereby they provide a full outfit so that the children are wrapped up warm enough in the winter but not overheat in the summer months. With this in mind, their Micro fleeces at £29.99 are a staple piece as they can be layered or worn on their own. The winter suits start from £99.00 and can tolerate temperatures from as low as -30 degrees: perfect for skiing holiday’s and protecting you from the elements. Their ‘Snuggly’ is a fantastic tube of fabric which can be used around your neck as a scarf, which is easy for the children to put on by themselves. The Tiny Troll hats keep those little heads warm, are 100% cotton and were a big hit with Stanley, who as you know LOVES a hat!
Elaine believes that the most important thing about outerwear for children is their ‘durability’ and ‘protection’. “We use only the best materials so that parents can wash the clothes over and over again and they will maintain their quality in look and function. Children can play outside whatever the weather in Tiny Trolls of Norway clothes, we believe there is no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing.”
The philosophy of the brand is to change attitudes to outdoor play and to encourage families to really enjoy getting outside. Which I totally champion, as there is nothing more liberating than getting the children out and about no matter the weather 🙂
